Building on the success of an October 2020 initiative to help keep the Tennessee River clean, organizers from Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful (KTNRB) and Johnsonville State Historic Park mobilized volunteers to remove more than 9,000 pounds of trash from the banks of the river.

Over a three-day period, 25 volunteers collected an astounding 9,208 lbs. of trash and debris from a three mile stretch of river that had been adopted by volunteers who wanted to make a difference in their community.

KTNRB Executive Director Kathleen Gibi said, “That’s how the change for our river will happen: through local partners and individuals who are eager about taking ownership to protect and improve their beautiful river community.”

The volunteers hope to host another clean up event in April and have set their sights at collecting 100,000 pounds of trash from the river by the end of the year.To learn more about KTNRB and get involved check their website to learn about upcoming cleanup dates.
