After noticing a car collision, Virginia Sheriff Deputy J. Holt lept into action. Noticing a woman was trapped under the car, Deputy Holt single-handedly lifted the car off the woman allowing her to roll to safety.
In a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, they said, “The driver was laying underneath the vehicle with her head pinned by the sunroof. Seeing the trauma her child was witnessing, Deputy J. Holt went into overdrive.”
Body cam footage released by the Sheriff’s Department shows Holt straining as he initially attempts to lift the vehicle. Unsuccessful after multiple attempts, Holt redoubled his resolve and eventually succeeded.
The Sheriff’s Department statement continued, “Through sheer will and determination due to fearing the female may succumb to her circumstance in front of her panic-stricken child, Deputy J. Holt took quick action and was able to physically lift the vehicle up enough for the driver to maneuver her head out to safety.”
Officer Holt was already a hero for stepping up to serve his community but is now an award winning hero. Awarded one of the top awards by his department, Holt’s resolve to protect the communities he serves is not new. Three months earlier, Holt rushed into a burning home to save two people from the blaze. It is because of the determination and resolve of officers like Deputy J. Holt communities are safer.
