Texas Youth Joins Race to Kindness

Orion Jean, 10, is helping school lift people’s spirits by organizing a “race to kindness.”

Last year the Texas native, participated in his local elementary school’s kindness competition, winning top honors with his proposed campaign of compassion. Awarded $500 to implement his proposed kindness project, Jean used his prize money to buy toys that he donated to a children’s hospital in Dallas.

Next, he partnered local relief agencies across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area to organize a food drive and distribute 100,000 meals to families in Texas. Not through yet, Jean organized a series of book drives to promote literacy during pandemic. Currently, he has collected 120,000 books. His goal is to collect and distribute 500,000 books by the end of August.

“I want to be able to share my love of literacy with as many people as possible,” Jean told CBS News.
