After a heartbreaking summer for the Swanger family, 9-year-old Noah of Las Vegas had a surprise waiting for him on his first day of school.

As Noah prepared to embark for his first day of the adventure that is fourth grade, he was met by members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department prepared to escort him to school.

Noah’s father Jason Swanger, 41, a seven-year veteran, died from complications associated with Covid-19.

According to a press release issued by LVPD following Officer Swanger’s passing, “He was known as a devoted father and husband who went the extra mile for people in need and dedicated himself to policing to make a difference in other people’s lives.”

For the first day of school, Noah wore a white shirt along with a tie signifying that he is now the man of the house now. Additionally, he wore a badge pinned to his backpack in honor of his father.

“This is his connection to his dad on the police department so it means a lot to him that they are all here for him,” Christa Swanger said.

Upon arriving at school with a police escort, Christa Swanger said people asked questions and Noah had no problem telling his peers about his dad and his new friends looking out for him for this special occasion.
