Julio Cesar Mora Tapia (110 years-old) and Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros (104 years-old) are officially the world’s oldest couple. This Ecuadorian duo tied the knot 79 years ago, and was named the world’s oldest coup by Guinness World Records. Their advice for a long-lasting marriage? “Love + maturity + mutual respect.”
The couple met when Waldramina was visiting her sister during one of her school vacations. Julio Cesar lived in the same building as Waldramina’s sister. After becoming friends, Julio became enamored by Waldramina’s big heart, conversation, and beauty, and Waldramina thought Julio Cesar was a poetic young spirit.
On February 7, 1941 at the oldest church in Quito, La Iglesia de El Belén, the couple said their “I do’s.” Now more than 79 years later the couple boast 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Commenting on the status of their relationship during the pandemic, the couple stated, “It is true that at this time it is difficult because we are overwhelmed by the pandemic that affects the world and we still do not have a solution. However, the first step for us to follow the rules with respect and love the life.”
