When Cemal Şentürk was admitted to Medical Park Hospital in Trabzon, Turkey, his loyal fluffy white pooch Boncuk was determined not to leave her owner’s side.
Boncuk trailed the ambulance to the hospital. Şentürk’s daughter, Aynur Egeli, would send Boncuk home each night. However, every morning Boncuk would return to the hospital waiting patiently outside for Cemal to come out.
Hospital security guard, Muhammet Akdeniz, told Turkish news service DHA, “The dog comes here every day at around 9 in the morning, waits until the evening, and then leaves. She never comes inside, but waits for her owner.”
Becoming something of a mascot, hospital staff began feeding Boncuk and giving her water. Şentürk was even able to sometimes see outside his hospital window.
“Boncuk has behaved really sweet during the six days and has managed to capture the love and affection of the whole staff,” the hospital’s international patient center director Murat Ercan told CNN.
“I missed her too, constantly,” a teary Şentürk told DHA. [“Dogs] bring joy… They provide companionship just like humans—and they make people happy.”
After being released from the hospital, Boncuk ran to his owner elated to have Şentürk home.
