Child with Cleft Lip Gets a New Best Friend

The last thing Michigan parents expected to find after for their two year old son Bentley with cleft lip was a puppy. Initially, Little Bentley’s father anticipated bringing home a chicken when he went to the local Jackson County Animal Shelter.

Instead, he brought home a black-and-white puppy that also has a cleft lip. After their initial meeting the pair have become inseparable.

Commenting on the burgeoning relationship, Bentley’s mother, Ashley Boyers, told ClickOnDetroit that seeing her toddler son ”have something in common with a puppy means a lot, because he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something that they can share in common.”

Likewise, when the news of Bentley’s story was shared at the Jackson County Animal Shelter, they too were elated to see the “instant love” between the two-month-old pup and Bentley.Commenting on Facebook, the Animal Shelter said, “It’s so hard to put into words how meaningful this adoption is to all of us… We wish many years of joy as this special pair grows up together!”
